ARNOLD STANG

Arnold Stang, born in 1954 during the early years of Rock n' Roll.  Our brother Doug was born in 1951, the year  Jackie Brenston and Ike Turner with the Delta Cats released "Rocket 88", considered  the first rock and roll song.  Then in 1954 Bill Haley recorded the classic Shake Rattle and Roll.

Fly Stang was born in 1957, the same year Paul McCartney, then 15, and John Lennon 16 met.  The music died just two years later when  Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper died in an airplane crash.

Like a lot of kids in America Arnold and Fly's older brother Doug picked up a guitar after the Beatles hit it big. Arnold and Fly were influenced by their brother and the sounds of the 60's.

Arnold got a set of Ludwig drums in 1968 as a Christmas present.  Fly developed an interest in the guitar after hearing "Sunshine Of Your Love" in 1968.  Learning guitar in those days were from the Mel Bay instruction books.  Fly lost interest in this type of learning and put down the guitar until 1972.  Fly started learning from friends and started showing Arnold guitar chords, he then switched from drums to guitar.

Arnold became discouraged playing cover songs and began writing original songs from the chords Fly and friends were teaching him. This led to back room and garage jams with other friends and experimenting with new ideas.

In the early 1980's Fly played bass with the Hollywood id, (1982-1983) and has played with other bands through out the years.  In 1984 we purchased a TASCAM 4 track cassette recorder and began our first attempt at recording original songs. Two of those recordings appear on our new album "Curtain Call", soon to be released  in 2024.  During this period Arnold continued to write new material and make basic demos on Digital Audio Work station.

In 2017 Arnold and Fly each purchased a TASCAM 24-track work station and we started to record material from Arnold's collection of original songs.  From those recordings we released our first album entitled "Midnight Drive"  in 2022.  We created all art work, photography and design with the exception of the front art work for the album cover.

We play guitar, bass and vocals on our latest album "Curtain Call".  We came up with the concept of inviting our friends, Reid Holmes and Bill Peters to each play lead guitar on 3 tracks.  Dave Blackburn plays rhythm guitar and bass on the "Levee", drum tracks 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and organ & tambourine.  We are also including 2 songs from our early years featuring Roger Terry on vocals and lead guitar.  We plan to release this on 12" vinyl, CD and downloads.  All the photographs, model design and model building,  album design, lay out and computer graphics were all done in house.  Special thanks to Dave Blackburn who mixed and mastered Curtain Call.  His positive input and expertise has made our dream a reality.

Our future plans are to record and release more albums and singles.  We are not aiming for perfection just having fun and hopefully inspiring others to make the jump  and record their original music.  We can be contacted at arnoldstang.com (contact page)
